The Mango Prepaid Mastercard Review
With decent credit cards being harder to obtain these days (especially for those with shaky credit) the prepaid debit card alternative is becoming more and more popular. And if the prepaid option has the ability to assist in the rebuilding of credit, then it’s even better! One of the more popular options among consumers is the Mango Prepaid MasterCard.
How it works: Just like with a checking account, you load the card with money you have and then can only spend what you’ve put in. It prevents overdrafts fees associated with traditional checking accounts as well as over spending frequently associated with traditional 0% APR credit cards. The Mango MasterCard has climbed it’s way to the top of our list for prepaid debit cards because there are no application/activation fees and shipping and handling is entirely free.
The most notable benefits of this card are…
1) It is accepted wherever MasterCard is accepted.
2) You will not incur any credit checks, overdraft fees or activation fees that other prepaid options have.
3) You can manage your account online and/or with your mobile phone.
The Mango Prepaid MasterCard – Complete List of Features:
- FREE Prepaid MasterCard
- $0 Activation Fee
- FREE Direct Deposit
- FREE unlimited purchase / signature transactions
- FREE account management online or with your mobile phone
- FREE to check your balance with your mobile phone
- No monthly fee when you load $500/month
- Send money with your mobile phone
- Load cash at tens of thousands of retailers nationwide
- No credit check, no bank account needed, no overdraft fees

Here’s my take on Prepaid Debit Cards (payroll cards) based on my own experience:
I used to work at a large national restaurant chain and our card was pretty bad. But, from what I hear, it was typical because most cards either have a monthly fee or pretty limited as to the free items. I have worked at Starbucks for about 7 months now and they allow us to have a card called the Money Manager Card. The choice was pretty simple because there are no monthly fees, I can use it on their network (allpoint atms) free at all times, never any fees to buy things (signing or using my PIN and getting cash back if I want…all without a fee or surcharge), no overdraft. Let’s just say I haven’t paid a fee in the entire time I’ve had the card. It’s pretty simple to use it at no charge and I really don’t have to tip-toe around any limited free items like most other cards I have seen have.
Oh, and don’t lose most payroll cards! If you do, it’ll cost you $$ even to get the replacement sent by the post office. My new card give free replacements when delivered by the post office all of the time. Or, if I want, I can get it delivered by Fedex for $10. Pretty reasonable as I sent something by Fedex a month ago and paid $14!
My point is, if an employer is set on offering its employees a Paycard, it should do both the company and its employees and offer a Paycard that truly costs $0 to use. When I say $0, I mean $0. Not just $0 if you jump through certain hoops, etc.
I should state that Walmart has something that is similar sounding to Money Manager Card. I think it is the Money Card or something like that. That card is definitely not the same.
I did a quick Google search on Money Card when investigating the Starbucks offering and mistakenly clicked on a link to a Money Card “problem” page where people complained about it. Then, I realized that “Money Card” is not “Money Manager Card”.
Thought I would let you know so you don’t make the same mistake and get yourself a card that will end up costing you $$$$.

Mango Prepaid Mastercard is a Fraud. Ordered the card and set up direct deposit, now have several thousand dollars on the card but they have failed 3 times to actually send me a real card to use. Avoid them at all costs.

THIS IS MY EXPERIENCE WITH THE MANGO CARD….THE CUSTOMER SERVICE SUCKS, I HAVE TALKED TO THE SAME REPS REPEATEDLY IN ONE DAY…HOW MANY COMPANY’S TO DO YOU CALL AND GET THE SAME REPS AGAIN AND AGAIN…I CAN TELL YOU OF THE REPS NAMES SHAWN AND IMMA. I APPLIED FOR MY CARD IN OCTOBER AND ITS NOW NOV. 19TH AND I STILL HAVEN’T RECEIVED MY CARD. THEY ALSO GIVE ME SOME EXCUSES, I HAD SET UP DIRECT DEPOSIT AND GOT A COUPLE OF THOUSAND DEPOSITED WHICH WAS FROM MY SCHOOL AID MONEY. INSTEAD OF THEM TELLING ME, WHEN I ASKED IN THE BEGINNING WILL IT BE A PROBLEM, TO HAVE THE SCHOOL DIRECT DEPOSIT, DIFFERENT REPS ALL SAID IT WOULDNT BE AN ISSUE. THE REPS SAID THEY NEEDED TO VERIFY IT WAS ME BEFORE I COULD USE ANY OF MY FUNDS. I SENT THEM THE INFO THEY REQUESTED THRU FAX AND EMAIL. THEY DENIED THE FAX SAYING THEY COULDNT READ IT. AFTER THAT THEY LATER TELL ME THAT THE DEPOSIT WASNT A DEPOSIT THEY COULD EXCEPT. THIS HAS ALL BEEN GOING ON SINCE OCTOBER. MY ADVICE TO ANYONE CONSIDERING THE MANGO MASTERCARD IS DONT DO DIRECT DEPOSIT BECAUSE THEY WILL GIVE YOU THE RUN AROUND. IF YOU REALLY HAVE BILLS THAT NEED IMMEDIATE ATTENTION ITS THE ROUTE TO GO, ESPECIALLY IF YOU WANT IT IMMEDIATELY. I WOULD GIVE YOU A SUGGESTION ABOUT HOW THE CARD WORKS OR IF ITS A GOOD CARD BUT I HAVENT RECEIVED IT YET, SO I CANT TELL YOU ANYTHING ABO9UT THAT LOL.

DO NOT GET MANGO MONEY CARD! I have had this card and have had nothing but trouble with it. Sometimes they will restrict access to your card with out even contacting you about it,I found out I could not use my card when I was at a gas station with NO gas, I didn’t have any physical cash one me and it was a complete hassle and inconvenience to go through. so if your stuck some where need gas money or food or some sort of emergency don’t count on getting your OWN money anytime you want. If they decide to close your count they will also not inform you about it, they will keep your money for 8-10 weeks and charge you a $10 processing fee to get a check for the remaining balance sent to your address. Mango Money Card is a joke and in my eyes thief’s! Please help to spread the word about this horrible company and card!

I have had this card for a few months and have absolutely no negative issues with it other than a PIN mixup at beginning. Customer service cleared issue right up. Makes me wonder if the negative comments are from people with ulterior motives or persons that didn’t take time to read disclosures. Anyway this card isn’t perfect but I use it to pay most bills as well as gas and misc. expenses without any problems. This is an excellent debit card but if your not sure try it out for a few months before committing to direct deposit, the fees are very low and more than likely you will find this card beneficial.
