Does the 4.0% APY CD rate still exist?

Well yes, but with some strings attached. Shopping for high yield CD’s is tough these days. Certificates of Deposit are experiencing some of the lowest rates in recent history (after coming down from some of the highest rates in recent history last summer). So where can one find a CD yielding 4.0%…or more?

For starters, you will have to look for maturities well past the more popular 6 month through 12 month durations. If you insist on chasing that 4.0% APY, then I’d suggest looking for 4 year + maturities.

Financial institutions offering CD rates above 4.0% APY would most likely be through smaller local thrifts such as the following…

CD Rates through Christian Community Credit Union

Christian Community Credit Union of southern California has two appetizing CD rates. The first is a 3.50% APY with a term of 7 – 18 months. The second is a 4.50% APY with a term of 48 – 60 months.

Both of these certificates of deposit require new money to achieve these rates. There is also a $1,000 required minimum balance to open.

Christian Community Credit Union uses your bank deposits to build new ministries and churches, typically around the Southern California area. To read more about who CC Credit Union is click here.

I like the CD rates. Unfortunately this is a difficult credit union to become a member of if you reside outside of California.

California CD rates seem to be the highest yielding when you search around for various savings rates. Why is that?
