Within the last 25 years Loan Depot has also built and launched two similar start-ups that later merged with Lending Tree and E-Trade.

Today’s Lowest Mortgage Rates in Your Area

Loan Depot aims to separate itself from the other various direct mortgage lenders by providing a vast array of online resources for mortgage education which consumers can use before applying. Many of these tools, however, are similar to what other online mortgage lenders provide such as calculators, loan comparisons and graphic illustrations. Their most original online tool being their “videoDepot.” They’ve compiled an entire library of videos dedicated to educating consumers on loan programs and the loan process. So if you’re in the market for your first mortgage, this can be very helpful.

They offer a wide range of mortgage products. Among these are: fixed rate mortgages, adjustable rate mortgages, FHA loans, interest-only loans, jumbo loans and home equity loans. Their most popular product is their 30 year fixed rate mortgage. As of September 2011, their 30 year fixed rate mortgage provides and APR of 4.00%.

Mortgage Rates Provided by Loan Depot:

(Rates accurate as of September 2011.)

- 30 year fixed rate mortgage featuring an interest rate of 3.75% and an APR of 4.0%.

- 15 year fixed rate mortgage featuring an interest rate of 3.75% and an APR of 3.937%.

- 5 year adjustable rate mortgage featuring an interest rate of 3.0% and an APR of 3.139%.

Adjustable Rate Mortgages: If you anticipate a significant increase in your income or property value in the next several years, plan on staying in your home short-term, or would like to significantly lower your payment, an ARM might be right for you. Adjustable Rate Mortgages (ARMs) have interest rates that change at a pre-determined frequency.

FHA Loans: Insured by the Federal Housing Administration (FHA), these loans are government-assisted alternatives to conventional financing, and were originally offered for first-time home buyers with imperfect credit. Now, FHA loans are open to a wider audience, and are even popular options for homeowners looking to refinance.

Interest Only Loans: If you need to lower your mortgage payment as much as possible or if you have a financial plan that requires that you pay less in interest over the next few years than an interest-only loan might be a good fit for you.

Loan Depot has received somewhat low ratings from users with an average rating of between 1 and 3 stars out of 5. The reviews and complaints users have left on various consumer review websites as well as the BBB haven’t been particularly flattering. However, one must take into account that when everything goes smoothly with a mortgage application and home loan process there is a less likely chance of that individual writing a review than one who had a negative experience. Studies have shown the individual with the negative experience is more likely to voice his/her opinion than one who had a positive experience.

UltimaBank uses the daily balance method to calculate the interest rate on your CD. They also impose a penalty for early withdrawal and your funds will automatically be reinvested into the CD if you don’t give them notice within 10 days of its maturity.

Currently they offer the highest yielding certificate of deposit for 12 month terms from online banks. You can open a personal CD account online or if you happen to live in New York City you can open a deposit account by stopping by one of their local branches.

Currently, Metropolitan National Bank is offering anyone a 1 year CD with an APY of 1.35% and a minimum deposit requirement of just $1,000. Their interest rates are non-compounding (“simple interest”) and assume you will keep your deposit within the account until it matures. If you need the money before the term is up, an early withdrawal penalty will be imposed. Also, keep in mind that if you would like to collect your deposit with it’s accrued interest at the date of maturity you’ll probably want to let them know well in advance otherwise they will automatically roll it into another 1 year CD and you’ll get dinged for the early withdrawal.

Today, when reviewing some of the mortgage rates from their network you’ll see that you can lock in a 30 year fixed rate mortgage for an APR of 4.64%, a 15 year fixed rate mortgage with an APR of 3.99% and a 5/1 ARM mortgage with an APR of 3.25%.

Today’s Lowest Mortgage Rates in Your Area

Although their APRs are generally enticing, they seem to simultaneously receive a somewhat high rate of complaints online. The complaints usually stem from customer service (specifically – waiting time for mortgage and home loan closing, lack of customer service agents handling client demand, and frequent transfers of representatives). Here are two recent reviews from customers around the web:

Review #1 – Good Rating: “We refinanced our mortgage through Lending Tree. It was so fast, so easy! It was almost a little scary! We filled out forms, faxed over some w2′s and other statements and before I could call for the status, our loan was approved! Now that won’t happen in everyone’s case (depends on the credit history and score, of course) but this was very easy. I am confident we got a good rate too.” – Mortgage Refinance Customer

“I chose Lending Tree to refinance my house because of their catchy ad tag — “When lenders compete, you win.” After the death of my husband, I wanted to combine my 30 year fixed-rate mortgage and my 10 year, interest-only balloon equity line into one fixed-rate mortgage.

Review #2 – Poor Rating: After submitting my basic application, I was contacted by Lending Tree and was surprised to be told that they no longer “shop” mortgages to other lenders. The “specialist” who called me said she would be working with me from start to finish and assured me that this would work in my favor. After reviewing the information on my house and my credit report, she also assured me that the refinance would go through without a hitch and she could start the paperwork as soon as I authorized a $600.00 credit card payment to Lending Tree. This would become part of my closing costs. The only way I would forfeit this money would be if my home appraisal came in too low. I naively complied.

Well, guess what? The appraiser sent out by Lending Tree valued my house almost $40,000 too low for the amount of money I need to borrow! According to the Lending Tree specialist, this was based on sales of comparable homes on streets “near me” I have never heard of. I have found homes like mine within 1/2 mile that sold for the price I need to show; but these were just internet or newspaper items, not the official MLS listings. According to Lending Tree, I can appeal the appraisal if I – with no assistance from Lending Tree – can find MLS listings (from whom?) of three comparable homes that sold in the last six months for the price I say my home is worth.

Meanwhile, I have never seen the appraisal in writing, I’m out $600.00, and the sweet-sounding specialist has stopped returning my calls or responding to my e-mails.”- LendingTree Refinance Customer (Mortgage reviews found at ViewPoints.com)

Summary of LendingTree’s Mortgage Refinancing and Home Loan Process:

LendingTree.com is a free, no-obligation service which they claim “will empower you to take control of your financial life.” They have interactive tools, personalized advice and comprehensive resources customers can use to manage their finances. If you’re looking for a loan, they can connect you with multiple lenders who’ll compete for your business and provide customized loan offers. If you need help with your finances, they have a suite of tools and personalized advice for users to budget their money, get out of debt, and boost their savings.

How does LendingTree.com make money?

Banks and Lenders pay LendingTree.com for the chance to compete for your business. And if you decide to take out a loan through LendingTree’s services, you’ll be responsible for paying any loan processing, closing costs or other fees to the lender you choose and LendingTree will be paid from the institution for sending them your business.

Below are the going rates for these CD’s. As a side note their personal CD’s are currently yielding slightly lower rates than the national average for CD rates.

About TD Bank:

TD Bank claims to be America’s most convenient bank (so much so that they’ve actually trademarked the term “America’s most convenient bank”). They are one of the 15 largest banks in the United States with $160 billion in assets, and provides customers with a full range of financial products and services at more than 1,100 retail stores throughout the Northeast, Mid-Atlantic, Metro D.C. and Florida.

Company History:

The company first opened its doors as Portland Savings Bank in Portland, Maine, in 1852, and later grew through a series of mergers and became Peoples Heritage Bank in 1983. At the turn of the millennium, the opportunity for growth presented itself again as Peoples Heritage Bank, through several acquisitions, expanded deeper into New England and took the name Banknorth.

Meanwhile, Cherry Hill, New Jersey-based Commerce Bank was turning Customers into Fans as America’s Most Convenient Bank. Founded in 1973, Commerce Bank expanded rapidly over the next 30 years into metro New York and Philadelphia, Washington D.C., and South Florida, winning new Customers with WOW! service and convenience.

In 2004, Banknorth caught the eye of TD Bank Financial Group of Toronto, Canada, a top 10 financial services company in North America. TD Bank Financial Group soon became Banknorth’s majority shareholder and the company became known as TD Banknorth. TD Bank Financial Group completed its purchase of TD Banknorth in 2007.

Looking to expand further in the U.S., TD Bank Financial Group acquired Commerce Bank on March 31, 2008, and the company rebranded as TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank. TD Banknorth locations followed suit in September 2009, completing the merger of the two companies and uniting them under the TD Bank brand name.

Today, TD Bank, America’s Most Convenient Bank, remains focused on delivering award-winning Customer service and hassle-free products to Customers from Maine to Florida.

Today they operate in 16 states across most of the southeast to midwest.

How Regions Bank got it’s roots…

Regions Financial Corporation traces its roots back to three Alabama-based banks who became original affiliates of First Alabama Bancshares, Inc., chartered in 1970 as the first multi-bank holding company in the state of Alabama. Those three banks are: the First National Bank of Huntsville, chartered in 1856, the First National Bank of Montgomery, opened in 1871, and the Exchange Security Bank of Birmingham.

Regions Bank’s Product Offerings:

Regions offers a wide array of products for personal, small business and commercial banking customers. Within the personal banking vertical they offer the full assortment of products – checking, savings, CDs, credit cards, mortgages, refi’s, auto loans, student loans, insurance and investing. They also intertwined these products with state of the art online banking technology – online bill pay, mobile banking, etc.

CD Rates available through Regions Bank:

Regions Bank’s CD rates epitomize the miserable state of the current consumer savings market. Their rates provide yields of next to nothing with maturities ranging from 2 months to 5 years. PLEASE NOTE – These rates may be outdated. Refer to the date of this article for accuracy.
